Bonded ADSL is a broadband technology which provides incredibly good performance at very competitive prices.

Why should I be interested?

Many businesses have ADSL broadband, which provides download speeds (ie for incoming traffic) of up to 8Mb per second and upload speeds of only 256Kb per second. And normally, the broadband line has a 'contention ratio' of 20:1, meaning you share the bandwidth with 19 other organisations.

This can result in slow performance and unreliable connections, particularly if:

• your business depends on sending (uploading) large files electronically
• increasing numbers of your staff are working remotely
• your business operates from more than one site

So what are the alternatives to conventional broadband?

Conventional broadband is based on 'ADSL' technology and a typical business-class service costs around £800 per year.

Until recently, the only real alternative was 'SDSL', which provides the same bandwidth for upload as for download. SDSL generally offers bandwidth up to 2Mb in both directions and line rental is often between £5,000 and £6,000 per year.

Is there anything else on the market?

There is now! 'Bonded ADSL' provides comparable performance to SDSL, at half the price.

The service works by bonding together standard ADSL lines to give higher performance. It's available as a 'dual' service, where two lines are bonded, or a 'quad' service, where four lines are bonded.
